Leaksville Christian Fellowship has had many names (5 to be exact), since the founding of Leaksville Christian Church over 145 years ago, on March 29, 1880. We were organized and established by our church covenant in an effort to be simply Christian ,not part of any sect or denomination, with “Christ as the only head of the church, and the Holy Bible as the only infallible rule of Christian faith and practice” for the church, as our original covenant states. For over 50 years, we were know as Leaksville Christian Church. 

During those 50 years, the church entered into association with the former Christian Church denomination, which it was a part of for many years, and in 1932, it became Leaksville Congregational-Christian Church, with the merging of 2 denominations, and this was our name for 25 years. 

In 1957, when denominations merged once again, the church became known as Leaksville United Church of Christ, until 2022. 

In 2022, our church decided unanimously to go back to the original name of the church, Leaksville Christian Church-Independent. The “Independent” was added to the end of our name to clarify that we had left the United Church of Christ denomination, and were no longer part of any denomination, but we were simply an Independent, Bible Believing church. 

The word church in the Bible in Greek is “ecclesia,” which means a called out assembly or fellowship of believers in Jesus. The church is not the building, but the people in fellowship with the Lord and with each other, this is the Biblical description of the church. 

This year, 2025, we are making one final name change, in both keeping with the spiritual heritage of how we were founded, as Leaksville Christian, but emphasizing that we are a “fellowship” of believers who love and serve Jesus and share Him with our community. We are not part of any denomination or association, but strive to be simply what the Bible calls us to be as a New Testament church, in fellowship with Christ and with one another, reaching the lost for Jesus and making disciples who love and serve the Lord.
